Jana Nayagan in crisis again? Amazon withdraws from OTT deal?
cancel

New Delhi: The release of Jana Nayagan, starring Vijay, has suffered another setback as delays in the certification process have pushed the film’s release back by at least three months. The development has also reportedly affected the film’s digital streaming agreement.

According to industry reports, the film’s OTT rights had been sold to Amazon Prime Video for around ₹120 crore. However, with the theatrical release now uncertain, the platform is said to have backed out of the deal.

The delay follows fresh complications in the censoring process. The revising committee of the Central Board of Film Certification was scheduled to rewatch the film, but the screening was reportedly cancelled after a member of the committee fell ill.

Earlier, the film’s producers, KVN Productions, had withdrawn their petition against the censor board in the Madras High Court, informing the court that they would leave the matter to the revising committee. The decision reportedly came after concerns that a prolonged legal battle could further delay the film’s release.

‘Jana Nayagan’, made on an estimated budget of around ₹500 crore, was originally scheduled for a Pongal release on January 9. The film was planned for a worldwide release across about 5,000 screens.

The project holds added significance as it is expected to be Vijay’s final film before entering politics. The film also features actors Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, and Mamita Baiju in key roles.

With the certification delay continuing and the OTT deal reportedly in jeopardy, uncertainty once again surrounds the film’s eventual release.
