SS Rajamouli's film RRR is now the first Indian film to get nominated for Best Picture at Hollywood Critics Association (HCA) Awards. The Telugu original will be competing with Hollywood movies like Top Gun: Maverick and The Batman.

The movie starring Jr NTR and Ram Charan had become a sensation in the West since its OTT release on Netflix. Many Hollywood insiders have called the movie a "masterpiece".

Hollywood Critics Association tweeted the nominees - Cha Cha Real Smooth, Elvis, Everything Everywhere All at Once, Marcel The Shell With Shoes On, The Batman, The Northman, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, Top Gun: Maverick, and Turning Red

The Twitter handle of RRR shared the news and wrote: "Happy to see RRR movie nominated for Best Picture at HCA Critics".

The winners of the Hollywood Critics Association Awards will be announced on July 1.

The Telugu-language epic action-drama film is about the fictional friendship between two real-life Indian revolutionaries, Alluri Sitarama Raju (Charan) and Komaram Bheem (Rama Rao). Their fight against the British Raj inspired S. S. Rajamouli to think about what it would have been like if they had met in real life.

RRR is the most expensive Indian film to date as the budget was Rs 550 crore. The film grossed Rs 1,150-1,200 crore at the box office.
