Vincy Aloshious disturbed by leak of complaint against famous actor over on-set drug use
text_fieldsIn the wake of the Justice Hema Committee report—which exposed the severe discrimination and exploitation women face in the film industry—Malayalam cinema is once again in the spotlight following serious allegations by State Award-winning actor Vincy Aloshious.
Vincy accused a prominent male actor of showing up to work allegedly under the influence of drugs and acting inappropriately toward her. Though she chose not to reveal the actor’s identity or the film’s name publicly, she reportedly filed a formal complaint with the Kerala Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC), the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), and the Kerala Film Producers Association (KFPA).
However, in a disturbing turn of events, the contents of her complaint were leaked, leaving her shocked, Indian Express reported.
Vincy has now spoken out, expressing her unhappiness with the leak and explaining why she chose not to divulge details about the incident.
Vincy maintained that she had specifically requested in her complaint that the names of the accused actor or the film in question not be revealed to the public and that she made the decision to protect the project, which she felt should not bear the brunt of his alleged wrongdoings.
According to a report by Mathrubhumi, actress Vincy shared that the film where the incident occurred had an Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) in place. She mentioned that after the incident, an ICC member reached out to her to ask if she wanted to file a complaint.
However, since the shoot was almost over at the time, she decided against it to avoid potential disruptions to the project. She explained that this was a personal decision and added that she later chose to distance herself from films involving individuals who use drugs.
Vincy noted that aside from the incident, the rest of the crew had treated her with respect. When she eventually did file a complaint, the director reportedly issued a warning to the actor involved. She also mentioned that another female actor on the same project had been more affected by the actor’s behaviour and was so upset that she ended up leaving the set.
Vincy recalled confronting the actor verbally at the time but acknowledged that not all new, especially female, actors may feel empowered to do the same.
Vincy also expressed uncertainty about how details of her complaint were leaked to the media. She clarified that she never intended to reveal the identity of the individual involved or make the matter public. Her main concern, she said, was simply to work on film sets with dignity.
She pointed out that while most workplaces have designated smoking areas, film sets often lack such systems. According to her, smoking openly in front of others on set is inappropriate and should be limited to break times.
Vincy extended her thanks to everyone who supported her, including film industry bodies such as AMMA, the Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA), the Women In Cinema Collective (WCC), and KFPA.
AMMA, the actors' association to which she also belongs, is said to have set up a three-member panel—comprising actors Ansiba Hassan, Vinu Mohan, and Sarayu Mohan—to investigate her complaint, which includes serious allegations of drug use and inappropriate conduct.
Despite the seriousness of the issue, Vincy clarified that her goal was not to have the accused actor removed from the industry. She stressed that she hoped for a change in his behaviour rather than professional consequences. Acknowledging his talent, she emphasised that everyone should have the opportunity to correct their mistakes.
