Raipur: A 1241-page chargesheet against the four accused, including a contractor, in the brutal murder of journalist Mukesh Chandrakar, 33, on January 1 of this year was filed in the district court by the Bijapur police in south Chhattisgarh on Tuesday.

A primary accused contractor named Suresh Chandrakar, who is also Mukesh's relative, allegedly killed the Bastar scribe after he went missing because of his investigative report on the irregularities and poor road construction work in the area, TNIE reported.

The journalist's killing was then investigated by an 11-member special investigation team (SIT), which was headed by Bijapur additional superintendent of police Bijapur Mayank Gurjar.

The SIT team's chargesheet listed Suresh in addition to Mahendra Ramteke, a contractor's employee, and Ritesh and Dinesh Chandrakar, both of whom are Mukesh's relatives.

“The police produced a 1200-page plus chargesheet in the Mukesh Chandrakar murder case before the court against the four accused under various sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Detailed investigations taking into consideration digital and physical evidence were carried out. We will strongly contest the case to ensure stringent punishment be meted out to all the four accused”, said Mayank Gurjar.

Earlier a freelancer for a couple of national media houses, Mukesh had his own YouTube channel ‘Bastar Junction’.
