1.71 lakh rape cases reported countrywide between 2015 and 2019: Govt

Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Kumar Mishra informed the Parliament on Wednesday that 1.71 lakh rape cases were registered between 2015 and 2019 in the country. Mishra revealed the data in response to a question in the Rajya Sabha.

The highest number of rapes were reported from Madhya Pradesh, followed by Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra. Madhya Pradesh recorded 22,752 rape cases between 2015 and 2019, Rajasthan 20,937, Uttar Pradesh 19,098 and Maharashtra 14,707. In the same time frame, 8,051 rape cases were registered in the capital city of Delhi.

In 2015, 34,651 cases of rape were registered countrywide. In 2016, 38,947 cases, 32,559 in 2017, 33,356 in 2018 and 32,033 in 2019.
