Yadgir: Karnataka’s Yadgir Rural Police on Wednesday arrested a social media influencer and his associate for posting provocative videos where they threatened to behead those who insulted Prophet Muhammad.

The accused were identified as Akbar Syed Bahadur Ali (23), a resident of Ashanala village, and Hattikuni Cross resident Mohammad Ayaz (21).

A case has been registered against them under IPC sections 153 for provocation with intent to cause riots and 505/2 for making statements that promote enmity between classes.

The duo had uploaded several videos on social media urging their community to kill non-believers, said the Superintendent of Yadgiri Police.

As their videos went viral on social media, Hindu organizations, and activists demanded action from the Karnataka Police Department against the accused. Mohan Gowda, a senior leader of Hindu Jana Jagurthi Samithi, had also called for the registration of an FIR against Ali.
