A wooden structure fell at a Jain community function in Badaut on Tuesday, killing at least seven people and injuring more than 40 others, including Jain disciples and police personnel. The incident happened about 8 a.m. during a programme for Lord Adinath's 'Abhishek' at the Shri Digambar Jain Degree College grounds on Gandhi Road in Baraut city, 20 km from Baghpat.

The wooden stairs of the 65-foot makeshift stage built in the Maanstambh Complex collapsed causing devotees on the stage and nearby to fall down, according to authorities. According to District Magistrate Asmita Lal, rescue operations were initiated immediately on Tuesday morning to rescue people trapped beneath the collapsed platform, TNIE reported.

"During the 'Laddu Mahotsav' program of the Jain community in Baraut, a wooden structure collapsed. Initial reports suggest that around 40 people sustained injuries. 20 people were sent home after treatment, and 20 people are still undergoing treatment. 5 people have died," said DM Asmita Lal, speaking to ANI.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took urgent notice of the tragedy and directed local officials to provide immediate help to the injured. He also conveyed his wishes for the swift recovery of those injured in the accident.

Meanwhile, panic swept the region following the tragedy, causing a stampede-like situation. Police officers responded quickly to the location and brought the situation under control.
