New Delhi: A day after the Union Cabinet approved of setting up the pay commission in 2026, PM Modi said that the 8th Pay Commission will ‘improve quality of life and give a boost to consumption’, The Indian Express reported.

Taking to platform X PM Modi made it clear that ‘We are all proud of the efforts of all Government employees, who work to build a Viksit Bharat. The Cabinet’s decision on the 8th Pay Commission will improve quality of life and give a boost to consumption.’

Earlier Ashwini Vaishnaw in a post said ‘PM @narendramodi Ji has approved the 8th Central Pay Commission for all Central Government employees’, adding that the decision was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by PM Modi on Thursday.

The decision to set up 8th pay commission comes a year before the end of the 7th Pay Commission.

A pay commission, constituted by the Centre every decade to revise salary and pension of its employees, has come into being since 1947 with 7 pay commissions successively in place so far.
