Learning has no limit. There is always something new to learn, whether it is a new language, skill or gaining a new perspective. A 78-year-old man from Mizoram has proved that age is just a number for trying new things in life.

Lalringthara, lives in New Hruaikawn village, in Champai district close to the Myanmar border, and has always wanted to learn the English language.

He has now enrolled himself in Class 9 at Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan High School, located in the same village, to complete his education. Lalringthara, reportedly walks 3 km every day, to attend school even in heavy rain or scorching heat.

Born in 1945 at Khuangleng village near the Indo-Myanmar border, he lost his father when he was only 2 years old. Being an only child, Lalringthara was forced to give up education after class 2 and help his mother in farming.

After moving to many places, he finally settled in New Hruaikawn village in 1995. He works as a guard in the local Presbyterian church.

His education suffered, but his desire to learn the English language kept his motivation alive. Lalringthara’s main ambition is to be able to write applications in English and to understand news telecast on TV.
