Andhra Pradesh: A police inspector faces suspension for alleged involvement in an honour killing in Macherla, Palnadu district, including suspected bribes from the victim's family, a senior official told PTI.

Chowdeshwaramma and Nagaraj, both from the same community, eloped before approaching the local station. Her parents promised to allow their marriage, prompting her return home.

Days later, with no wedding in sight, she planned to rejoin Nagaraj. She died on March 18. The family claimed suicide by hanging, but postmortem confirmed strangulation murder.

Probe revealed the inspector allegedly accepted money from her father and facilitated her handover, then failed to act properly. He was suspended Sunday, April 5.

Police have filed a case under Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), with sections possibly updated as the investigation proceeds.
