New Delhi: Arindam Bagchi, a spokesman for the external affairs ministry, will succeed as India's permanent representative in Geneva to the UN and other international institutions.

He is expected to start his assignment soon, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said.

According to reports, K Nandini Singla, the high commissioner to Mauritius, and Nagaraj Naidu Kakanur, joint secretary (G20), are among the diplomats being considered to take Bagchi's post as the foreign ministry's spokesperson the New Indian Express reported.

Bagchi, who joined the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) in 1995, assumed the role of spokesperson in March 2021. During that time, he oversaw the nation's reaction to the Covid-19 pandemic and the stalemate between China and India on the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
