Assam faces 'love jihad to land jihad', claims Himanta Sarma
text_fieldsGuwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma used his Independence Day message to make further hate remarks against Bengali-speaking Muslims in his BJP-ruled state. The CM, whose administration is using everything in its power to evict Muslims from their homelands under the pretext of clearing encroachments, said on Friday that “illegal infiltration” poses an “existential threat” to Assam’s indigenous people. He claimed that the state is facing “everything from love jihad to land jihad.”
The CM was referring to Bengali-Muslims using “illegal infiltration”.
He claimed that the state is engaged in a “battle to keep the identity of the indigenous people alive".
He wrote on X, "The spirit of the tricolour brought people together as we celebrate the country's 79th Independence Day... in an atmosphere of peace and backed by solid progress achieved over the last few years. I urge everyone to always uphold the pride of the nation."
The BJP CM, who is known for his series of hate remarks against Muslims in the country, claimed that his state has compromised with infiltrators for 78 years and allowed 'certain demographic changes' to take root, according to an NDTV report.
In a video shared on X by Sarma’s on handle, he could be heard speaking, and a translation of his words could be seen at the foot of the video. It read, “ This is a struggle for survival. We will not rent out to illegal foreigners, we will not sell land to any illegal foreigners, we will not allow Govt land to be encroached.”
“I am reiterating this to the DCs, if any Govt land is encroached upon in the coming days, Govt will take action against them”, he said. “Thousands of bighas of land were occupied by encroachers in front of your eyes, you failed to fulfil your responsibility.”
