In the communique, the Governor provided the details of what happened in Murshidabad during the last few days, and also how tension flared up in certain pockets of the district, according to sources in Raj Bhavan.
The document, based on information from the Governor's core team and the state secretariat, reportedly includes confidential communication between the Governor and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee regarding the situation.
To address the unrest, the state government has deployed 23 experienced police officers from various districts to Murshidabad. This team will remain in the district until normalcy is restored.
Director General of Police Rajeev Kumar has arrived in Murshidabad to coordinate efforts with the district administration and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF). Inspector General (South Bengal Frontier) of the Border Security Force, K. S. Shekhawat, also reached the district on Sunday.
CAPF personnel conducted route marches in troubled areas on Sunday morning and have been stationed in nine particularly sensitive pockets, following a Calcutta High Court directive issued on Saturday evening.
As of Sunday afternoon, 150 individuals have been arrested, and the death toll from the violence has risen to four.
