New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday called English an “empowering” language that should be taught to every child, alleging that the BJP-RSS alliance seeks to prevent poor children from learning it to deny them opportunities and equality.

Responding to reported remarks made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah a day earlier, Gandhi posted in Hindi on X, “English is not a dam, it is a bridge. It is not shameful—it is empowering. It is not a chain, but a tool to break chains.”

He argued that in today’s world, English is just as vital as one’s mother tongue, offering employment opportunities and building confidence.

“Every Indian language carries soul, culture, and knowledge. We must preserve them, but also ensure every child learns English. That’s how India can compete globally and offer equal opportunity to all,” he said.
