BSE gets bomb threat from 'Comrade Pinarayi Vijayan', a hoax threat
text_fieldsMumbai: Police in Mumbai are looking out for the person who identifying himself as ‘Comrade Pinarayi Vijayan’ in an email issued bomb threat to the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), The Indian Express reported.
An employee at the BSE noticed the email that was sent on Sunday, which threatened that four bombs were planted inside the building.
Following which the premises were checked, confirming that the threat was a hoax.
The email claimed that four RDX Improvised Explosive Devices, planted at BSE’s Phiroze towers, would go off at 3 pm.
An officer reportedly said that the employee had noticed the email only on Monday, before alerting the officials.
‘Following which due procedure was followed and the building was checked. Nothing suspicious was found,’ the officer reportedly said.
A FIR under sections 351 (1), 353(2), 351(3), 351(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita dealing with criminal intimidation by anonymous communication has been filed.
It is reported that the crime branch is working to trace the IP address of the sender, to track down the person.
Increasing number of hoax threat emails and calls have been reported in recent years, according to the officer.
Majority of these threats were issued by people with mental health issues and others under the influence of alcohol, according to the data with the police.
‘In some cases, people also do it to see if they can get away with it by using proxy IDs which makes it difficult to trace them,’ the officer was quoted as saying.
Also note, the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) was among the sites where the 1993 bomb blast had taken place killing 257 people.
