New Delhi: Actor and activist Prakash Raj has expressed solidarity with the arrested Ladakh struggle hero and prominent education and environmental activist Sonam Wangchuk. Prakash Raj wrote on X that one can arrest Wangchuk, but cannot silence him.

""You can cage a bird, but not it's song." You can arrest @Wangchuk66 but you can't silence the truth he stands for. I know this man. I know what he stands for. #LadakhProtests #LadakhStatehood #SonamWangchuk #justasking,” Prakash Raj wrote on X

Wangchuk, who was leading a hunger strike demanding statehood for Ladakh and the region’s inclusion in the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution, was arrested by the police yesterday. The Leh Apex Body (LAB), of which Wangchuk is a member, and the Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) have been jointly protesting for statehood for five years. The protest had ended in violent police firing and the death of four people on Wednesday, and Wangchuk had ended his hunger strike following the unfortunate turn of events. However, the Union Home Ministry accused him of making provocative statements and inciting violence in the union territory, and arrested him later. The arrest was made under the National Security Act, and Wangchuk is currently lodged in Jodhpur Central Jail in Rajasthan.

Meanwhile, Ladakh Police claimed that Wangchuk has Pakistan links and cited the activist attending an event organised by The Dawn in Pakistan.

Ladakh Director General of Police S D Singh Jamwal on Saturday said Wangchuk is being probed for allegedly having links with Pakistan on the back of last month's arrest of a Pakistani Intelligence Operative who sent videos of his protests across the border.

Jamwal described Wangchuk as the key person behind Wednesday's violence.

"What has been found in the investigation (against Wangchuk) cannot be disclosed at this moment. The process is ongoing, and if you look at his profile and history, you will see that it is all available on YouTube. His speech worked as an instigation as he talked about the Arab Spring and the recent unrest in Nepal, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka,” the officer claimed.
