New Delhi: An Enforcement Directorate (ED) officer stationed in Shimla is on the run after the CBI conducted searches at places linked to him and discovered a large amount of money, including Rs 54 lakh that he reportedly accepted as a bribe, CBI officials informed The Indian Express.

The ED officer involved is an Assistant Director. The CBI arrested his brother, a manager with a public sector bank based in Delhi, in the same case.

According to the CBI, they are accused of receiving bribes in connection with a three-year-old Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) case under investigation by an ED official, the Indian Express reported.

A senior CBI officer told The Indian Express over the phone from New Delhi, “The bribe amount of Rs 54 lakh, along with a car in which the prime suspect had escaped, was seized on Sunday. His brother was arrested later and is currently in CBI custody. Subsequently, searches were conducted at the residence and premises of the ED office at Rani Villa, in Strawberry Hills, Chhota Shimla. The search at the residence led to the recovery of an additional Rs 56.50 lakh. So far, the agency has seized Rs 1.01 crore.”
