Chandrababu Naidu's TDP sets for returning to NDA, talks underway

New Delhi: The BJP and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) are more likely to forge an alliance in the upcoming Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh if the talks leaders of both parties held on Thursday were any indication.
TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu met Minister Amit Shah and BJP president JP Nadda giving rise to speculation that both parties are in for revamping ruptured ties after six years.
This is the second meeting Naidu and Shah had in as many months, and another one between both parties will take place in Delhi on Friday, NDTV reported.
It is reported that both parties will officially confirm the likelihood of any alliance within a couple of days.
The TDP was a major constituent in the BJP’s National Democratic Alliance (NDA) until Naidu, who was the then Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, left the alliance in 2018 falling out over financial support for the state.
As the Lok Sabha polls are nearing, both parties appear to be sensing the importance of joining their forces.
However the likelihood of them entering an alliance depends largely on arriving at a mutually agreeable sharing-formula by resolving differences over numbers of seats they claim in Andhra Pradesh’s 25 Lok Sabha and 175 Assembly seats.
Though the BJP is in for contesting eight to ten parliamentary constituencies, the party could settle for five to six Lok Sabha seats to bolster the alliance.
The Pawan Kalyan-led Jana Sena Party (JSP) may claim three and the TDP will retain the remainder.
