Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan has submitted his resignation after the Left Democratic Front (LDF) suffered a major defeat in the Kerala Assembly Elections 2026.

The resignation letter was delivered to Rajendra Arlekar at Raj Bhavan through a special messenger. The Governor has requested Vijayan to continue as interim Chief Minister until the formation of the new government.

The election results marked a significant setback for the LDF, with the United Democratic Front (UDF) securing a sweeping victory by winning 102 seats and returning to power after a decade.

13 out of the 21 LDF ministers lost the election.
