Congress lodges complaint with Speaker over PM Modi and Anurag Thakur's statements

The Congress party has lodged a formal complaint with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, alleging that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP MP Anurag Thakur made misleading statements during parliamentary proceedings. Congress MP Manickam Tagore, in a letter to the Speaker, highlighted several points of contention regarding statements made by Modi and Thakur.

Tagore's letter accused Prime Minister Modi of inaccurately stating that the Congress had promised Rs 8,500 per month to women, clarifying that it was a commitment contingent upon electoral victory and government formation.

The Congress also disputed Modi's claim that the party's vote share had decreased in 16 states where it contested independently, citing examples where the vote shares actually increased.

Further, the Congress contested Modi's assertion that no bulletproof jackets were provided to the Army during Congress's tenure, clarifying that while there were shortages, jackets were indeed available. They also rebutted Modi's statement that the Congress did not provide fighter jets to the Army, listing several aircraft types deployed during Congress's rule.

Regarding Anurag Thakur's remarks, the Congress alleged factual inaccuracies in his claim that the Army lacked arms and fighter jets under Congress's governance. They countered with a list of military assets and advancements during that period, including nuclear capabilities and missile systems.

Thakur's assertion that 25 crore people were lifted out of poverty and that the Prime Minister had not taken any holidays was also challenged by the Congress, seeking clarity on the categorization of leave during election campaigns.
