CPI(M) holds demonstrations in Srinagar in solidarity with Gaza, Iran
text_fieldsSrinagar: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) held a meeting, extending its solidarity to Palestine and Iran, in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, calling the Union government to break its silence and advocate for peace in the two war-ravaged territories, The Wire reported.
The meeting was led by CPI(M) General Secretary M Y Tarigami and was attended by dozens of party leaders and activists, who staged a demonstration to condemn the “genocide and war crimes” of Israel. The demonstrators raised slogans in solidarity with the Palestinians and their just cause of struggle for nationhood, dignity and freedom.
CPI(M) demanded the BJP-led Centre take a principled stand consistent with historical support for the Palestinian cause and stop all military and security cooperation with Israel immediately.
Tarigami told reporters after the meeting that Israel’s ongoing attack on Palestinian civilians, as well as its latest military offensive at Iran, has caused fears of a major flare-up. He said that the party had staged demonstrations across the country against Israel's actions and extended solidarity to Palestine and Iran on the day. He said that the party urged people to come out of their homes and protest against Israel's aggressions.
Tarigami said that the crisis in Palestine is a major challenge for the world while Israel’swar on Iran poses a threat to global peace. He noted that it is unfortunate that the United States and the European nations are in complete support of Israel in its attacks on Iran, potentially sparking a global crisis. He warned that embers of war would flare up and spread in the region.
When the relentless offensive of Israel into the Gaza Strip has killed at least 55,432 Palestinians so far, the conflict with Iran has killed 220 Iranians on its fourth day, Tuesday. More than 20 people were killed in Iranian strikes on Israel as well.
