Nine female employees of the digital media platform Newslaundry have filed a defamation case in the Delhi High Court against commentator Abhijit Iyer Mitra, accusing him of making sexually abusive comments about them on social media.

The women are demanding a public apology from Mitra, who writes for the pro-Narendra Modi website OpIndia, along with Rs 2 crore in compensation. In their petition, they claim that Mitra deliberately used offensive language and slurs in multiple posts to malign them in a false and harmful manner, Scroll.in reported.

The employees further stated that Mitra’s posts were made “knowingly and deliberately” to damage their dignity and reputation. According to them, his remarks cannot be justified as free speech or legitimate journalistic criticism.

They described the comments as sexist insults intended to humiliate women professionals, asserting that the remarks directly attack their dignity and their right to work without fear or sexual harassment.

The case is scheduled to be heard on Wednesday by Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav.
