New Delhi: A 22-year-old man in north Delhi was arrested on Saturday for slaughtering a cow on a vacant plot near a temple.

On February 7, police received information about the slaughter at Roshnara underpass of Gulabi Bagh area, India Today reported.

Police sent the remains of the animal collected from the site to a government veterinary hospital.

The accused identified as Aftab Ahmad alias Lukman is a resident of Janta Majdoor Colony, Babarpur.

Aftab faces charges from sections of the Delhi Agricultural Cattle Preservation Act, Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, according to India Today.

Aftab Ahmad along with Arkam, Saleem, Maruf and Altamas slaughtered cows for meat previously too, police said.

On the night between February 6 and 7, Aftab and the other accused went to Gulabi Bagh area in a car.

On their way back, they caught a cow and took it for slaughter at the plot near the temple, according to the police.

The group previously involved in cases of cow slaughter in Rohini and Outer North districts of Delhi Police.

Police also said that Aftab Ahmad faced charges of robbery, snatching and also the Arms Act in 2022.
