Palakkad: BJP leader in Kerala, Syed Mohammed, who was the Minority Morcha district vice president of the party in Palakkad, left the party and joined the Congress. Palakkad DCC President A. Thankappan welcomed him into the Congress with a shawl. Syed Mohammed said that he had been an active BJP worker since 1986 and left it because he was fed up with the party.

Earlier, in a setback for the Palakkad Congress, the Congress Mandal President joined the CPI(M), and there was a lot of political talk in the district. Kottayi Mandal President K Mohan Kumar and workers joined the CPI(M). Kumar, who was Congress District Secretary, was welcomed into the party at the Palakkad CPI(M) District Committee office.
