Bengaluru: Ford Motor has announced on Friday plans to restart its manufacturing unit in Tamil Nadu.

Ford’s potential re-entry comes three years after it exited the world’s third-largest car market, NDTV reported.

It is reported that the carmaker has submitted a letter of intent to the state government.

Only two days ago Tamil Nadu chief minister said both were in talks to start manufacturing in the state aiming exports.

Ford left India, stopping production for domestic sale, having struggled in a market dominated by Asian rivals.

Ford said in a statement that the facility will be re-purposed’ to see manufacturing for exports to global markets.

The company built cars and engines at the Chennai plant before its exit.
