Gangster out on bail in murder case shot dead in encounter in UP
text_fieldsMeerut: A Special Task Force of Uttar Pradesh police shot dead a gangster who used to terrorise people in Noida, Ghaziabad and the national capital region.
Anil Dujana, who is charged in over 60 criminal cases, was killed in the encounter with the UP Police's special task force (STF) in Meerut.
Only a week earlier, Dujana was released from jail on bail in a murder case. However, Dujana went on to threaten a key witness in the murder case he was facing, NDTV reported.
It is reported that Anil Dujana had plans to kill the witness, which made the STF consider arresting him.
However, Dujana and his gang ‘engaged the police’, which led to gunfight in which he reportedly died, the report said.
The encounter had taken place in a village in Meerut where Dujana and his gang were hiding.
After the gang opened fire, the fight took place on an unpaved road surrounded by bushes in the village, NDTV said.
Following Dujana's threat to the witness, police swung into action in the light of witness’s death in another case related to gangster Atiq Ahmed, according to the report.
In February, gangster Atiq Ahmed’s son Asad Ahmed allegedly shot dead the witness in the murder case of a Bahujan Samaj Party leader.
Asad was killed in an encounter last month following which his father was also shot dead on camera in UP's Prayagraj.
As many as 183 gangsters have been killed in UP since March 2017 when Yogi Adityanath became the Chief Minister.
During this period, 13 policemen were killed in action and eight of them were ambushed.
