Germany denies reports claiming India not invited to G7 meet

New Delhi: The reports that Germany is considering not inviting India for the G7 meeting it is going to host has been stated as "wrong" by the German government. The reports claimed that Germany is taking such a step because of India's position on the Russian invasion of Ukraine, IANS reported.
The spokesperson of the German government, Steffen Hebestreit, said that Berlin would publish the list of guests as soon as it is finalized.
A report had stated that Germany is thinking about "whether to invite Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the G7 summit it's hosting in June given India's reluctance to condemn Russia for invading Ukraine", IANS quotes.
India and 49 other countries had abstained from a United Nations vote to suspend Russia from the UN Human Rights Council. India also has not imposed sanctions on Russia.
The G7 is an informal group of seven nations such as Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK, the US and the European Union. It maintains an influential role on issues that are later taken up by other fora with broader global and regional membership.
