Gorakhpur: A group of youths in Gorakhpur allegedly attempted to dodge a restaurant bill by placing a bone in a plate of vegetable biryani, a ploy that was exposed through CCTV footage.

The incident occurred on the night of July 31 at Biryani Bay, a restaurant located at Shastri Chowk under the jurisdiction of Cantonment Police Station. According to restaurant owner Ravikar Singh, a group of 8 to 10 young men dined at the eatery and ordered both vegetarian and non-vegetarian biryani.

Shortly after the food was served, one of the youths raised an alarm, claiming he had found a bone in his veg biryani. The restaurant manager immediately contacted the police, who arrived at the scene and requested the CCTV footage from the establishment.

The footage reportedly revealed that one youth had handed over a bone to another, who then discreetly placed it in the veg biryani dish, confirming the suspicion of foul play.

Ravikar Singh asserted that cross-contamination was not possible, as meat and vegetarian items are cooked separately in his kitchen. “They clearly wanted to avoid paying the bill, which was around ₹5,000 to ₹6,000. Their actions were completely deliberate,” he told the police.

While police were called to intervene, no formal proceedings have been initiated as no official complaint has been lodged. However, Cantonment Circle Officer Yogendra Singh said that legal action is underway.
