The Ministry of Consumer Affairs has announced plans to introduce new guidelines aimed at combating the issue of pesky calls and unsolicited commercial communications.

Scheduled for release next month, these measures will align closely with the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India’s (Trai) upcoming regulations to create a unified approach to consumer protection.

Consumer Affairs Secretary Nidhi Khare confirmed that the draft guidelines were developed in collaboration with various stakeholders. These efforts are part of a broader initiative to enhance consumer safeguards amid increasing complaints about intrusive communications.

The guidelines, created by a joint committee of Indian regulators led by Trai, aim to harmonize existing frameworks for better enforcement across the telecom sector. This step reflects a strengthened commitment to addressing consumer grievances and ensuring a more streamlined regulatory environment.

With this initiative, the government hopes to significantly reduce the nuisance of unwanted calls and improve consumer experience in the telecom space.
