Horror! Hindu mob lynches Muslim man in Uttar Pradesh on Holi

Unnao/UP: A Hindu mob brutally attacked and killed a masjid-goer on Saturday in Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao after he resisted having colours thrown at him during Holi. The victim has been identified as 45-year-old Sharif, a resident of Sadar, who is a driver in Saudi Arabia and reached home only two months ago, Jagaran reported.

According to Jagaran, Sharif was going to the mosque when he came across a group celebrating Holi, who threw colours at him, to which he objected. When the group repeated their malicious act, an argument broke out, which led to a physical attack. Those who were around rescued him, helped him sit on a platform and gave him water, but he collapsed and died.

The man’s death incited tensions in the area, and heavy police security was deployed, including Rapid Response Teams from multiple stations. Locals who were outraged by the incident took to the streets demanding an immediate arrest of the accused.

Unnao Police claimed that Sharif died out of cardiac arrest, and there were no injury marks on his body. They wrote on social media, “Kotwali Sadar police took the body into custody and conducted a postmortem with videography by a panel of doctors. The postmortem report cites cardiac arrest as the cause of death, with no injury marks found on the body. The police are thoroughly investigating all other aspects.”

The Uttar Pradesh administration had taken up heavy precautionary measures against untoward incidents on Friday, the day of Holi, which coincided with the second Jum’a of Ramadan 2025. These measures included heavy security deployment in communally sensitive areas like Sambhal, covering Muslim religious structures such as Masjids and postponing Jum’a prayers. However, miscreants vandalised certain masjids in the state, with clear intentions to create communal disharmony, painting Jai Shree Ram on a mosque in Sambhal while smearing paint on some other masjids which were already prior to the celebrations, Siasat reported.

However, the state administration claimed that the Holi processions were peaceful.
