IIM rape case: victim's father says 'not raped, fell from auto'

Kolkata: In the case of an IIM Calcutta girl student allegedly being raped at a boys' hostel, the victim’s father has surfaced claiming that no incident of rape happened to his daughter, and she fell out of an auto-rickshaw instead, NDTV reported.

According to a case filed by the Haridevpur Police here, the second year of the IIM was raped in the boys’ hostel of the campus, and it was reported that one student was arrested in the case. Police sources informed that the alleged incident occurred on Friday evening when the female student was reportedly invited to the boys’ hostel by a fellow student for a discussion regarding job counselling. She was offered pizza and cold drinks during the meeting, after which she lost consciousness, according to the case. Upon regaining consciousness, the student felt she had been sexually assaulted. She immediately left the institute premises, contacted a friend, and reached the Haridevpur Police Station, where she lodged a complaint against the accused student.

The father of the student told reporters on Saturday that he was informed by phone on Friday evening, 9:30 pm, that his daughter had fallen out of an auto-rickshaw and lost her senses. She was admitted to the neurology department of SSKM hospital, and the police rescued her and took her there.

According to him, his daughter told him that no sexual assault occurred, but police asked her to “say something during the medical exam, and she did not”. He reiterated that his daughter told him that no one tortured her or misbehaved with her.

“I have got back my daughter, and she is normal,” NDTV quoted the girl’s father.

He said that the police told him that they had registered a case and arrested someone.
