India-EU trade talks enter 13th round in New Delhi amid farmer concerns
text_fieldsThe 13th round of trade negotiations between India and the European Union (EU) is currently being held in New Delhi.
EU Trade Commissioner Maroš Sefčovič is expected to meet India’s Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal on Friday for a key round of discussions.
This high-level meeting is seen as an important step in shaping the future of trade relations between the two. A major point of focus will be safeguarding sensitive sectors, especially in agriculture. The Indian government has assured that “all trade talks will proceed while keeping the best interests of the farmers in mind.”
Both India and the EU are aiming to finalise the free trade agreement by December 2025.
If successfully concluded, the deal is expected to provide a significant boost to India’s economy, helping it navigate through ongoing challenges such as global economic uncertainty and tariff actions from US President Donald Trump.
The talks are being closely watched as they could define India’s trade strategy and economic resilience in the coming years.
