'India should learn self-respect from Iran,' says Sanjay Raut
text_fieldsMumbai: Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut praised Iran for bravely standing up to global powers like the United States and Israel without bowing down. At the same time, he criticised the central government for its lack of assertiveness and its silence on the matter.
Raut told the media that India should learn from Iran what true self-respect and courage mean. He pointed out how Iran responded to a US attack on its nuclear facilities by launching missile strikes on an American air base in Qatar — a bold move that demonstrated strength and defiance.
He reminded that Iran has always stood by India during times of crisis. “Whether it was the Kashmir issue or conflicts with Pakistan, Iran has consistently supported India,” he said.
"Iran has shown what the self-respect and courage of a nation are. Iran is a country that has always stood with India when we faced any trouble. Be it the Kashmir or Pakistan issue, Iran has stood by India. We should learn from Iran. The country has not bowed down before anyone," Raut said during a press conference.
The Congress had earlier lashed out at the Modi government for not condemning the US bombings in Iran and provocations by Israel. Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh had demanded that the Centre urgently engage in diplomatic talks with Iran. He criticised the contradiction between US President Donald Trump's words about peace efforts in Iran and the reality of his actions. Even after the US bombed nuclear facilities like Fordow in Iran, India remained unwilling to issue a condemnation.
Following a 12-day war, a temporary ceasefire was established between Israel and Iran, but fresh tensions have flared up again. Israel re-entered the fray with threats of heavy assault, accusing Iran of violating the ceasefire.
It was US President Donald Trump who announced on social media that both countries had agreed to the ceasefire. “Please, let no one break it,” he urged. Subsequently, both Israel and Iran confirmed the ceasefire. The truce was reportedly brokered with Qatar’s help.
