Representational.

New Delhi: India successfully tested the nuclear-capable Agni-IV ballistic missile, which has a target range of 4,000 km, marking the country's military capabilities. Indian Ministery of Defence informed that the test, which was a part of routine user training, was conducted off the Odisha coast on Monday, NDTV reported.

In a statement, the ministry said, "The successful test reaffirms India's policy of having a credible minimum deterrence capability." The test launch took place at APJ Abdul Kalam Island in Odisha at 7.30 pm Monday.

According to the ministry, user training is carried out under the Strategic Forces Command. The test validated all the targeted operational parameters and reliability systems.

The Agni-IV is the latest in the Agni series of missiles developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). Agni-VI was earlier known as Agni II prime.

In 2021, India had successfully test-fired another nuclear-capable missile, the strategic Agni Prime missile, which has the ability to hit targets between 1,000 to 2,000 kilometres.

NDTV reports that India is adopting fresher technologies and capabilities as it is in pursuit of strengthening its strategic missile armoury.
