Tumakuru: A Muslim woman teacher engaged in caste census work was allegedly harassed by residents in Bhimasandra village near Tumakuru, Karnataka.

The teacher, identified as Reshma, was collecting data for the socio-economic and educational survey being conducted by the Permanent Commission for Backward Classes when several villagers confronted her.

According to Vartha Bharati, residents questioned her presence in Hindu households, demanded to see her identity card, and allegedly made derogatory remarks, asking whether she had come “to include them in her community.”

Officials have confirmed that an investigation is under way and assured that action will be taken against those found responsible.
