Hyderabad: Forest officials have captured a leopard that had been roaming in Manchirevula, Gandipet and nearby areas, causing panic for nearly two weeks. The animal is now being relocated to Nehru Zoological Park.

The leopard was trapped in a cage at the forest trek park in Moinabad after officials set up eight camera traps and four cages to track it. The big cat was first sighted 12 days ago, initially near Mulkavanam Nursery and later at the forest trek park in Chilkur. It was also seen near the Greyhounds campus in Manchirevula and, most recently, close to the Army Artillery Centre in Golconda on Sunday night.

Forest officials believe the leopard had strayed from the Vikarabad forest area while searching for a new habitat.

The animal will be kept under observation at the zoo before being released into a suitable forest area.
