Lucknow: A woman has been arrested in Lucknow for allegedly beating her six-year-old niece to death in a disturbing case that came to light weeks after the incident. The arrest was made on Saturday following a police investigation into the child’s suspicious death.

According to officials from the Indiranagar Police Station, the incident occurred on June 28 in a village under their jurisdiction. The victim, Aisa, had been living with her aunt Rubina for the past three months after the latter took her in, claiming she would educate the child.

Aisa’s father, Shamshuddin, a labourer, said Rubina called him on the morning of June 28 to inform him that his daughter had died. When he and other family members rushed to her house, Rubina allegedly avoided giving any clear explanation about the circumstances of the child's death. She reportedly arranged for a vehicle and sent Aisa's body back to their native village without delay or further clarification.

While preparing the child’s body for final rites, the family discovered visible injuries and promptly informed the Mehmoodabad police. A post-mortem examination confirmed that Aisa had died from a head injury and also revealed six additional injury marks on her body.

Following this revelation, Shamshuddin approached the Indiranagar police on July 8 and filed a formal complaint. A First Information Report (FIR) was registered, and Rubina was arrested on July 13.

During police interrogation, Rubina allegedly confessed that Aisa died as a result of injuries she sustained from being beaten. Investigations are ongoing to determine further details surrounding the incident.
