As political preparations intensify for the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, CPI(M) National General Secretary M.A. Baby made his first visit to Bihar in his new role, aiming to reinforce opposition unity against the BJP.

Arriving in Patna on Monday, Baby underscored the importance of a strategic and collaborative effort within the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance).

Addressing the media at Patna Airport, Baby stated that internal discussions with party leaders would focus on defeating the BJP and strengthening the Grand Alliance. He assured that the outcomes of these talks would be shared publicly. His visit aligns with the Left’s upcoming nationwide agitation, culminating in a Bharat Bandh on May 20, which is being positioned both as a workers' rights protest and a demonstration of opposition solidarity.

The CPI(ML), a key Mahagathbandhan partner, reaffirmed its commitment to the May 20 protest. Party leader Dipankar Bhattacharya declared the day a symbol of unity and a platform for advocating labor rights, setting the tone for a broader electoral alliance.

Other alliance leaders echoed this push for cohesion. RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav pledged street-level demonstrations, while Bihar Congress Legislature Party leader Dr. Shakeel Ahmad Khan launched a scathing critique of both the Centre and Nitish Kumar’s state government, calling for a strong public campaign to expose policy failures. Vikasheel Insaan Party’s Mukesh Sahani emphasised the need for a unified manifesto and a joint strategic campaign to counter the NDA.
