New Delhi: A man convicted in a cheque bounce case threatened a woman judge in Delhi court after she ruled against him earlier this month.

Judicial Magistrate (NI Act) Shivangi Mangla convicted the accused under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act on April 2, India Today reported.

Following the verdict, the judge asked the convict to furnish a bond under Section 437A of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).

However, the convict, got enraged by the verdict, tried to throw an object at the judge before instructing his lawyer to do whatever possible to turn the ruling in his favour.

The convict hurled abuses at the judge alongside threatening her with physical harm, saying that she would not go home alive should she meet him outside.

Justice Mangla stood the ground in the midst of the repeated threats and recorded in her order how the convict and his counsel, advocate Atul Kumar, threatened her alongside subjecting her to physical harassment.

‘The undersigned shall be taking appropriate measures against the accused before the National Commission for Women, Delhi for such threatening and harassment,’ the court order reportedly read.

Subsequently, the judge in a show-cause notice issued to the convict’s lawyer asked him to submit his response on the next date of hearing why he should not be referred to the Delhi High Court for criminal contempt over his conduct.

‘Court notice be issued to counsel for accused Atul Kumar to show cause in writing providing relevant explanation for the conduct shown by him today,’ the order reportedly said.
