Meerut: A man in Mavimira village, Meerut, deliberately placed a bag of meat outside his home and called police to report it, CCTV footage has revealed.

Puneet, son of Sensor Pal, phoned the emergency number 112 on Friday to say a bag full of meat had been found outside his house. His call prompted neighbours to gather and officers to attend the scene, briefly raising communal tensions.

Police searched the area and later removed the bag, which they buried in a pit. CCTV footage reviewed during the inquiry showed a 12 year old boy, Mayank, riding past with a sack containing several packets of meat; one packet fell as he turned. Puneet picked up the fallen packet from the alley and deliberately placed it near the main road, the footage indicated.

Senior Sub Inspector of Mavimira said Puneet had given false information to the police. He was issued a warning and told not to make such false reports again, Meerut police said.
