Free uniforms and textbooks will not be available to students admitted to government and aided schools if they do not provide their Aadhaar number by the sixth working day, said education minister V. Sivankutty.

The minister made this announcement in response to a question in the Assembly by Kurukkoli Moideen.

This academic year, 57,130 students had not received their UID numbers by the sixth working day.

Since the printing of textbooks starts earlier, the distribution is being done based on the previous year's UID. The textbook indent is recorded in advance and only two percent of the total children are allowed to record the indent by adding it.

The minister also clarified that if the number of children in the school increases by more than two percent compared to the previous year, they may have to study without getting free textbooks.
