Lucknow: Amid the state counting deaths due to the government failure in handling COVID, the attack on people over cow has seen no respite, as a suspected cattle smuggler was shot dead while six of his were associates injured in Mathura district's Tumaula village on Friday.

As per the police reports, these men from Bulandshahr who were cattle smugglers were attacked by the villagers for smuggling cows in their vehicle.

The preliminary inquiry revealed that the residents of Jawa village, who came to know about the cattle smuggling alerted their neighbours in Tumaula who then caught the suspected cattle smugglers on their way on Friday morning and assaulted them with sticks and stones.

The deceased was identified as Sher Khan alias Shera, a resident of Bulandshahr.

The police said they had reached the spot after hearing about the violence and send the seven injured men to the hospital.

Sher Khan, who is suspected to have been shot in the stomach was declared dead on arrival while four injured persons are in a critical state. The other two persons Minor injuries are released from the hospital and being interrogated by the police, as reported by Additional Superintendent of Police (Addl SP) Shrish Chandra.

Chandra said that the men have admitted that they were transporting the cows from Aligarh to Mewat in Haryana during the interrogations.

The police have also recovered two cartridges from their vehicle and had found that two of those injured had a history of cattle smuggling.

Mathura Circle Officer Jitendra Kumar said that the probes were going on while no one had been arrested in the case so far
