New Delhi: Since January, more than 2,790 Indian nationals who were found to be illegally residing in the United States have been deported, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed on Thursday.

Speaking at a weekly media briefing, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the individuals had failed to meet the necessary criteria for legal stay. “On deportation, since January of this year, we have had around 2,790-plus Indian nationals who did not meet the criteria. They were illegally staying there. We verified their credentials, their nationality. And they have returned. This is the status till yesterday, that is 29th October,” he stated.

Jaiswal also responded to a query regarding deportations from the United Kingdom, noting that approximately 100 Indian nationals have been deported from the UK this year after their nationality was duly verified by Indian authorities.

The figures reflect ongoing cooperation between India and foreign governments in managing immigration compliance and repatriation procedures.
