Hyderabad: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has been summoned by a Bareilly court for raising the slogan "Jai Palestine" during his oath-taking ceremony in Parliament. The hearing for the case is scheduled for January 7, 2025.

The legal proceedings were initiated by Advocate Virendra Gupta, who alleged that Owaisi breached constitutional and legal protocols during the ceremony. According to Gupta, the slogans raised by Owaisi violated established norms governing parliamentary oath-taking.

The incident occurred on June 25, when Owaisi, concluding his oath in Urdu, raised the slogans “Jai Palestine,” “Jai MIM,” “Jai Bhim,” “Jai Telangana,” and “Takbeer Allahu Akbar.”

This development comes as Asaduddin Owaisi continues to serve his fifth consecutive term as the Member of Parliament for Hyderabad. In the 2024 general elections, he won by a significant margin, defeating BJP candidate Madhavi Latha by 338,087 votes.

Owaisi secured 661,981 votes, whereas the BJP candidate, despite an intensive campaign, managed to garner 323,894 votes. This victory marked another strong endorsement of Owaisi’s leadership in the Hyderabad constituency.

The summons and his electoral success keep the AIMIM chief in the spotlight as he remains a key figure in Indian politics.
