Pahalgam: NC gets no invite to Centre’s all-party meet
text_fieldsNew Delhi: Over the horrendous terrorist attack of Pahalgam, in Jammu and Kashmir, the Centre had called for an all-party meeting but chose not to notify the National Conference, the ruling party of the Union territory, The Wire reported.
The all-party meeting is scheduled for Thursday, April 14.
According to The Wire, government sources said that only parties with five or more members in Parliament were invited to the meeting.
To this, the AIMIM’s Asaduddin Owaisi, the MP from Hyderabad, strongly objected, stating that even the BJP itself does not have a single majority in the Parliament and adding that all parties must be invited so that it will be an “all-party” meeting.
He wrote on X, “Regarding the Pahalgam All Party Meeting, I spoke to Kiren Rijiju last night. He said they’re thinking of inviting only parties with ‘5 or 10 MPs.’ When I asked why not parties with fewer MPs, he said that the meeting would get ‘too long’. When I asked ‘What about us, the smaller parties?’ He joked that my voice is anyway too loud.”
This is not a BJP’s or another party’s internal meeting, it is an all party meeting to send a strong and united message against terrorism & those countries that harbour terrorists. Can’t Narendra Modi spend an extra hour to hear the concerns of all parties?” he wondered.
Source from National Conference told The Wire that they have not received communication on the all party meeting nor J&K chief minister Omar Abdullah received any notification on the same.
Slamming the Centre, Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh said that the move to invite only parties with five or more MPs excludes the very party ruling the UT.
