Parliament’s Monsoon Session begins Monday; govt to present 8 new bills

New Delhi: The Monsoon Session of Parliament is set to begin on Monday and will run until August 21. During this period, the Central government plans to introduce eight new Bills for consideration.

The primary focus of the session is the Income-tax Bill, 2025, which was initially introduced in the Lok Sabha during the Budget Session on February 13. This bill, along with its amendments, has been reviewed and adopted by a parliamentary select committee chaired by BJP MP Baijayant Jay Panda. Following approval from the Union Cabinet, the bill is expected to be presented for passage during the Monsoon Session.

Among the other significant bills slated for introduction is the Manipur Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2025. This bill aims to align Manipur's state GST laws with the central legislation. Additionally, a bill for the extension of President’s rule in Manipur will be discussed, as such extensions require parliamentary approval every six months.

Another important bill on the agenda is the Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, 2025, which seeks to enhance ease of doing business and strengthen regulatory compliance.

Besides the eight new bills, the session will also address seven pending bills that were introduced earlier.

• The Indian Ports Bill, 2025
• The Income-tax Bill, 2025
• The Manipur Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2025 (to replace an Ordinance)
• The Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, 2025
• The Indian Institutes of Management (Amendment) Bill, 2025
• The Taxation Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2025
• The Geoheritage Sites and Geo-relics (Preservation and Maintenance) Bill, 2025
• The Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2025
• The National Sports Governance Bill, 2025
• The National Anti-Doping Amendment Bill, 2025
