PM security breach: Ferozepur SSP transferred

The Punjab government on Saturday transferred Senior Superintendent of Police Harmandeep Singh Hans. Hans, posted in Ferozepur, was caught in the crossfire between the state and union government over the alleged security breach of PM Modi. Hans is among the seven IPS officers and two PPS officers who were transferred following the incident.

PM Modi's convoy in Ferozepur was blocked for 15-20 minutes at a flyover around 30 km from the National Martyrs Memorial in Hussainiwala in Ferozepur on January 5 after protestors gathered at the other end of it. The programme he was supposed to attend and the subsequent rally was cancelled, and the PM had to return. The union government has alleged a security breach.

A Ministry of Home Affairs team and a two-member state team are currently investigating the breach. An FIR has also been lodged in the matter.

The Supreme Court on Friday took up the matter and instructed both the state and central committees to refrain from conducting inquiries till Monday when it shall hear the matter again.
