Rahul Gandhi warns EC officials over alleged electoral lapses
text_fieldsNew Delhi: Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Thursday issued a strong warning to Election Commission of India (ECI) officials, accusing them of misconduct in electoral processes and stating, “We are going to come for you.”
Speaking to reporters outside Parliament, Gandhi criticized the Commission’s handling of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Bihar and indicated a possible boycott of the upcoming Assembly elections. “Today they have made a statement, and this is complete nonsense,” he said.
Gandhi alleged large-scale voter fraud in Karnataka, claiming the ECI had added new voters aged 45, 50, and 60 in one constituency. “I want to give a message to the Election Commission that if you think you are going to get away with this or if your officials think that they are going to get away with this, then you are mistaken. We are going to come for you,” he said.
The Congress leader's remarks come amid opposition concerns over irregularities in the SIR exercise.
Responding to the criticism, BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya accused INDIA bloc leaders of raising doubts out of fear of electoral defeat. He said their statements were an admission of failure even before the Bihar polls.
“Tejashwi Yadav's idea of boycotting the elections proves that he has accepted that the voters of Bihar have completely rejected his campaign against SIR,” Malviya said on X.
He claimed the voter revision exercise had been widely accepted by the public, with more than 98 per cent of the work already completed. “The people are enthusiastically participating in this SIR festival of democracy,” he added.
Malviya also dismissed the opposition’s concerns as politically motivated. Not a single voter from Bihar joined them in their campaign. This is a clear indication that Tejashwi and Rahul are hyping a baseless issue, he said.
Mocking the opposition leaders, Malviya remarked, “these failed sons of Lalu, fearing the electoral test, are now seen looking for a way to boycott.”
