Rains, storms wreak havoc in Delhi: 4 killed

New Delhi: Strong winds, dust storms and heavy showers batter Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR), leading to four deaths in related incidents and 120 flights getting delayed. Further, railway lines were disrupted after trees fell on wires after strong winds and waterlogging was also reported in multiple areas of the capital, NDTV reported.
It was in Dwarka that a tree fell over a residence, killing a woman and her three children.
Three Flights were diverted from Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport to Ahmedabad and Jaipur. There were 21 minutes of delay for arrivals and 60 minutes for departures, and more than 20 flights to depart from Delhi were running late.
Though the airport authorities are working on seamless transit for passengers, multiple airlines advised passengers to check the latest status of their flights before heading to the airport.
Air India wrote on X, "Some of our flights to and from Delhi are being delayed or diverted, which is likely to impact our overall flight schedule. We are doing our best to minimize disruptions."
Authorities are yet to assess the damages, and they advised the public to stay indoors. Areas like Dwarka, Khanpur, South Extension Ring Road, Minto Road, Lajpat Nagar and Moti Bagh reported waterlogging.
When temperatures were recorded as 19.8 degrees Celsius, the Meteorology Department forecasted more strong showers, storms and winds at 70-80 kmph across the NCR. It has issued a yellow alert for the region till Saturday.
According to the department, the city's weather stations such as Safdarjung recorded 77mm rainfall, Lodhi Road recorded 78mm, Palam recorded 30 mm, Najafgarh recorded 19.5 mm, and Pitampura recorded 32 mm.
