Report claims Indian Navy pushed Rohingyas into Andaman Sea!
text_fieldsGeneva: The UN Special Rapporteur on Myanmar, Tom Andrews, has sought details from the Indian government on a report that the Indian Navy pushed Rohingya refugees into the Andaman Sea. He said that the incident is being investigated and if true, it is an act of unconscionability. Tom Andrews is an independent expert appointed by the UN Human Rights Council. It is reported that several Rohingya refugees living in Delhi were detained by Indian authorities last week, and that they had refugee identity cards.
As per the report brought by Andrews, around 40 members of the group were taken blindfolded to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and from there transferred to an Indian Navy ship. After crossing the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the refugees were given life jackets, put into the sea and forced to swim to an island in Myanmar. The report came to the public sphere on Thursday.
